Destani & Derek

Destani and Derek have been married for three years. Derek, a corrections officer and Destani, a social worker, enjoy the outdoors, spending time with their dogs and camping. They have struggled with infertility their entire marriage. Destani was diagnosed with endometriosis at age 16 and knew they would have issues conceiving. Since their journey started, Destani has had four endometriosis surgeries and has been on multiple endometriosis medications, hoping this would help increase their chances.

About a year into their journey, they discovered Derek has male-factor infertility, which would make conceiving even more difficult. The couple was then referred to a fertility specialist. Their doctors informed them that IUI would give them a 1% chance at parenthood, so Destani and Derek decided to pay out-of-pocket for IVF. During their IVF procedure, doctors were only able to receive two egg follicles. Both follicles fertilized and doctors transferred both embryos. Two weeks later, Destani and Derek were devastated to find out their cycle had failed.

Destani and Derek weren’t giving up on parenthood without a fight as becoming parents would mean the world to them. Not knowing how they were going to afford their next round of IVF, they found Parental Hope and decided to apply for a grant.

“We are touched beyond words to be receiving a grant for not only IVF, but for the medication as well. This is one of those experiences that we will treasure for the rest of our lives and are eternally grateful for such a generous and meaningful gift to our family. Parental Hope’s generosity has allowed us to keep the faith and have hope that we will win this fight!”
