Kayla & Nicholas

Kayla and Nicholas have been married for three years. Nicholas, an automotive mechanic, and Kayla, a Pharmacy Technician, both enjoy the outdoors, camping and hiking. Their infertility journey began the end of 2019.

They tried on their own for a year and a half before seeing a fertility specialist. A year into their journey, Kayla went to her OB-GYN to see about next steps, that’s when they were given referrals for nearby fertility clinics. Kayla and Nicholas weren’t quite ready for that and knew that they couldn’t do it on their own without help. Finally, December of 2019 they had their first appointment with the fertility specialist. After a few tests, they received a diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

In January 2020, they did their first IUI, which was negative. In the course of the spring/summer they did a total of three IUIs, which they decided if all three fail, they will move on to next steps. That fall, they started IVF. Kayla and Nicholas were hopeful and just knew it would work. Two embryos were transferred, which resulted in a negative. They had one left to freeze. A few months later, Kayla and Nicholas did a frozen cycle, which also resulted in a negative. They were heartbroken and unsure what to do next.

The cost of IVF was a huge factor for them, since insurance doesn’t cover any of the cost. They were going to take a break from treatment until they could save up for another IVF round. Until, they found Parental Hope and applied for a grant.

“We were so excited that we were chosen for a grant. This is an experience we will treasure and be forever grateful for. The generosity from Parental Hope has allowed us not to lose hope that our dreams of becoming parents will come true.”
